(UCLA). Scientists at UCLA reported that diets generally do not help people lose weight and keep it off. In general, people initially lose 5 percent to 10 percent of their weight on any given of diets, but then gain it back, often with some additional kilos as well.
This is commonly called the jo jo syndrome.
The UCLA conclusions are the result of a comprehensive and rigorous analysis of 31 long-term diet studies.
The researchers found that most people would be better off not going on a diet at all. The initial 5 percent to 10 percent weight loss generally occurs during the first six months. However, up to two-thirds of dieters then regain more weight than they lost within four or five years.
Dieting is actually a consistent predictor of future weight gain; one study showed that those who participate in formal weight-loss programs gain significantly more weight over a two-year period than those who had not participated in a weight-loss program. Other studies have shown similar results.
Instead of Dieting, the researchers recommended lifestyle changes such as eating in moderation and regular exercise.

2. Eat organic foods to loose weight
This may sound too good to be true but by eating more organic foods you will over time potentially be able to say goodbye to your love handles. Organic food will help you to loose fat by via:
A. As organic food contains more nutrients your body gets the nutrition it needs faster. So you in effect don’t need to eat as much food or calories to become satisfied. By eating less you will have a good chance of burning fat if you are also exercising and living healthily such as going to bed on time.
B. Non organic food contains dangerous toxins that get into your body when you eat the poisoned food. These toxins need to be stored in your body and the safest place to store them is in your fat cells. So the more toxins you store the more fat cells your body needs to produce to store them, so the fatter you become.
C. Organic fruits and vegetables contain higher levels of protein. Today most people don’t get enough protein from their diet, protein not only satisfies you more than fats and carbohydrates but it also provides you with the building blocks for your muscles. The more muscles you have the higher your metabolic rate and the more fat you burn all day. Read more about the health benefits of organic foods here:www.alun.dk/eng/artikler.asp?ID=405
3. Drink 2 litres of water per day
You need water to help convert stored fat into usable energy. If you’re dehydrated, the kidneys turn to the liver for backup, diminishing its ability to metabolize stored fat. The resulting reduced blood volume will interfere with your body’s ability to remove toxins and supply your cells with adequate nutrients. So cut down on coffee and soft drink and instead buy a 1 litre bottle of water and make sure you drink 2 litres per day. For more info on the importance of water: www.alun.dk/eng/artikler.asp?ID=148

6. Sleep 8 hours per night
Study’s have found that when healthy young men slept for only fours hours on two nights in a row, they showed dips in a hormone that suppresses appetite (18 percent lower), coupled with increases in an appetite-stimulating hormone (28 percent higher).
The two appetite-regulating hormones in question are leptin, which is released from fat cells and helps alert the brain that it’s time to stop eating, and ghrelin, which is produced in the stomach and helps trigger hunger. On top of that, the volunteers reported being more hungry after their sleep-deprived nights than after nights when they slept for 10 hours, with increased cravings for sweets, salty foods like chips and nuts, and starchy fare like bread and pasta. Yes lack of sleep resulted in craving for foods high in sugar, exactly the foods you should avoid if you want to maintain good health.
Researchers have also found that the less people sleep, the bigger the ten dense to be fat and over weight. Why? Because if too much leptin is produced too often via burning the candle at both ends, eventually your brains leptin receptors to become resistant.
This results in your brain not being able to send the signal to stop eating so you get fatter. That’s why fat people are always hungry because there is never any curb on their appetite and lust for sugar. Click here for tips on getting a good nights sleep: www.alun.dk/eng/lifestyle.asp?ID=327
